Watery Blue Sunset

Blue Sun

This ultraviolet image of the sun, taken by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, has been artistically adapted as a part of the traveling "Sun as Art" exhibit.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory took the above image of the sun's ultraviolet light. With the addition of a blue filter and a reflective surface in front of the scientific image, we can see a glimpse of what an ultraviolet sunset may look like over an ocean. You can see the magnetic field lines on the surface of the Sun as well, dancing across the surface.

The Solar Dynamics Observatory has its eyes set on the sun to help scientists learn more about solar wind, the Sun's magnetic field and solar flares that can impair communications systems on Earth.
