The world's most powerful digital camera snapped the above picture of galaxy NGC 1365 — a galaxy nestled in the distant Fornax galaxy cluster roughly 60 million light years away.

The 570-megapixel Dark Energy Camera can image tens of thousands of galaxies in a single image, and it can pick out galaxies as far as 8 billion light years away. Scientists are using the telescope to better understand why the universe's expansion is accelerating — a discovery that garnered the 2011 Nobel Prize in physics.
