Hornet X-Ray

Did you know that the "CT" in CT scans stands for computed tomography? It's basically a way to take images of the body in slices through the use of x-rays. Different parts of the body block x-rays better than others, allowing doctors to produce telling images for diagnosis and treatment.
The image above came from such a tomographic x-ray technique developed for higher sensitivity imaging. The left image shows the method being used on a hornet, and the right image reveals a 3-d rendering of the hornet. The scientists behind this technique hope it will be used for higher sensitivity imaging of small animals among other samples.
