Ocean Cyclones and Anticyclones

The image above shows results of a supercomputer simulation of ocean currents for a 1,000 by 1,000 km area. Red areas represent cyclonic vortices and filaments whereas blue areas indicate anticyclonic flows.

In meteorology, cyclones are comprised of swirling winds rotating around an area of low pressure. Anticyclones, on the other hand, revolve around areas of high pressure.
